Kelvin Guang Chang Cai

PT, BScPT, DPT(C), CAFCI, CGIMS, Cert.SMT, Cert.DN, Dip. Osteopractic Physiotherapy, MD(PRC)

Kelvin is the founder and senior physiotherapist of Memorial East Physical Therapy Clinic. He initially earned his Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy degree from Queen's University at Kingston, Canada. Kelvin has over 24 years of clinical physiotherapy experience providing assessment, diagnosing and treatment to patients with various orthopedic, neurological, MSK conditions and injuries. With extensive post graduate training, Kelvin is certified and authorized by The College of Physiotherapists of Alberta, to perform use of needle (medical acupuncture, IMS/dry needling), spinal and extremity manipulation and ordering diagnostic imaging (X-ray, MRI, and Diagnostic Ultrasound) during his clinical practice.

Major Education:

  • - Degree of Bachelor of science in Physical Therapy, Queen's University, Kingston, Canada.
  • - Degree of Doctor of Physical Therapy (C), Northeastern University, Boston, USA.
  • - Diploma in Osteopractic Physiotherapy, Americian Academy of Manipulative Therapy, Montgomery, USA.
  • - Degree of Bachelor of Science in Medicine (equivalent to MD degree in Canada/USA), Guangzhou Medical University, GuangZhou, PRC.

With the strong belief of evidence-based approach and as well as Kelvin's many years of clinical experience, his therapy practice is focused on the use of education, manual therapy, use of needles and prescribing specific therapeutic exercise programs for his patients. Over the years, Kelvin has obtained various certifications and he utilizes these unique treatment techniques, in conjunction with the other therapy methods, to help his patients and achieve their treatment goals. He also utilizes physiotherapy modalities such as thermal agents, electrotherapy, laser, shockwave or therapeutic ultrasound as appropriate.

Kelvin is certified and authorized with Shift Concussion Management (a level II provider) and Vestibular Rehabilitation. In addition, Kelvin is also a certified Graston Technique provider and is certified for customized orthotics services. He may also use sport taping and kinesiology tape, to help his patients for certain conditions and injuries based on the patient's particular needs.

Prior to immigrating to Canada in 1989, Kelvin had successfully completed his five-year medical training program (1981-1986) and earned his Degree of Bachelor of Science in Medicine in from Guangzhou Medical University, Guangzhou, China. He had been practicing as a pediatric surgeon in Guangzhou Children's Hospital, the largest hospital for children in south China, for 3 years.

Kelvin enjoys spending time with his family. In his spare time, he enjoys swimming and playing soccer.

Lavanya has been a registered massage therapist for 7 years and is a graduate with advanced massage therapy training from the Professional Institute of Massage Therapy (PIMT) Calgary. Her experience has allowed her to work with a variety of local health care professionals and use different massage styles; stress reduction massage, trigger point therapy, sacro-cranial therapy, hydrotherapy, and sports injury massage. Marinela has been working in our clinic for over five years as a Physiotherapist Assistant. She can speak Tagalog and English. For her spare time, she is enjoying dancing, gardening, and culinary arts.

Leah completed her BSc in Applied and Environmental Geology at the University of Calgary in 2017. She has been working with us since 2015 as a clinic assistant and receptionist. In her free time she enjoys doing puzzles, crafts, and walking her dog.

Amy Fraser

Amy Fraser

Receptionist / Physiotherapy Assistant

Amy completed her BSc in Biological Sciences at the University of Calgary in 2016. She would love to return to school in a few years to study physiotherapy or sports medicine. Amy is currently working as a receptionist/physiotherapy assistant at at our clinic. She is an avid skier and her other passions include playing the ukulele, reading, and biking.

Johanna Huynh is a graduate from SAIT Polytechnic. She is likely to return to school to study Kinesiology. Johanna is currently working as a clinic assistant/receptionist. In her spare time, she enjoys reading and hiking.
